Website was launched 21st May in Dublin

Iridology is a complementary therapy which involves the scientific analysis of the iris or coloured part of the eye and correlating the patterns and markings found to particular manifestations in the body as a whole. The connection between the iris and the body was known thousands of years ago but the practice of iridology was rediscovered during the 19th century.  Modern technology however has brought remarkable advances in this science. The subject has found renewed interest among medical doctors, naturopaths, and complementary therapists worldwide with a lot of research still ongoing. Iridology serves as a reliable tool in assessing the health status of the patient, and provides a basis for the plan of care depending on what other disciplines an iridologist may practice, as well as being a useful pointer for dietary and lifestyle adjustments.

The Irish Institute of Iridologists which was formed in 2004 to bring together therapists qualified to good standards in the practice of Iridology.  The website provides a list and details of competent practitioners in the field and was developed as an initiative based on the guidelines in the Information Leaflet on Complementary Therapists from the National Working Group appointed by the Department of Health and Children published in 2005, and in the interest of helping people to make informed health care choices.

The launch was presided over by Jan DeVries, herbalist, naturopath and iridologist and will be carried out at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Dublin.
